Odds and ends

Floating shelves

These floating shelves are  for displaying object d' art within an old house with high ceilings.  Visually,   there is no obvious way  by which the shelves  are  held in  position!

Racking for  an airing cupboard

The racking had to be made from pine and allow ventilation for the airing  of towels and linen. The pine was allowed to stand  around for a while so as to "warm up" in colour. A couple of coats of  Danish oil then completed the process.

Table for Indian marble.

The marble had been purchased by the customer  on a  trip to India. The marble  is inlaid with mother of pearl in a very beautiful and skilled manner. The task was to create a small table, sensitive to Indian aesthetics  that would set  off the marble to good effect.

In the photographs below you see the early stages of construction. The wood is American cherry. In the right hand picture note that the top  recess for the marble is not yet in place.

Below left you see the complete  table  having been stained and in the early stages of polishing. Below right  in situ with the marble sitting within the recess  in the top.

Photo below can be seen another view of the table and the marble. Below that,  the centre of the marble showing the exquisite design and craftsmanship.
