Glazed Dresser in White oak.
The commission was for a large dresser in American
White Oak. The four lower cupboards to each
have a raised and fielded door with double extension drawers
set above. The upper units to have doors glazed with
toughened glass. The shelves 6mm glass with the edges of
same polished up. The down lighters are of the "warm"
led type.
Below..
The dresser in situ, the photograph is a
hand held one of the dresser in situ
using only the available lighting . Hopefully it captures
the atmosphere of the piece within the room .
Many of the following images could be very much better. My
apologies. I shall re photograph the dresser once a
considerable amount of building work within the house
and indeed this room has been completed.

The four base units have been made and although
without handles etc, I wanted to check that they all
stood together square and true. Here they are simply
stood one against the other on their plinth and
all seems to be well. Running along the top
is a single length of veneered and lipped material that
"visually" joins the four discrete units together.

l/h picture below .
All the cabinets have "bookcase strip" set into them.
This allows adjustment of the shelving in 18mm increments.
The hinges for the doors are "lamello" hinges -
different from the usual brass butts.
In the four pictures below.
The l/h end of the upper unit has been glazed
to open up the unit . In the
top r/h picture you may spot a little bit of dust on the
floor !!
Below top left. A raised and fielded door and drawer
front with a small surround. Below top right. The architrave picks up the shape and style of an architrave
elsewhere within the room.
Above left Detail of upper unit
door glazing . Above right. Detail of
a drawer front. If the door shaper were s copied onto the drawer
front it would unnatural and yet, something broadly
similar is called for. The trick is to keep the
surround on the drawer front light yet just enough to
frame it. Back to showcase |
